Black Bean Burgers

I have been working with different meatless burger recipes and after a few total fails, I think I found one that works.
I found a few recipes on, but ultimately had to make a lot of changes, so this what I came up with.
The full recipe with ingredients are below.

after baking, doesn't look super appealing but, the taste is there

on a bun with all the yummy condiments and ready to eat


1 can black beans, drained and really mashed with a fork
1/2 Green Pepper, finely chopped
1/2 Red Onion, finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
1 egg
1/2 cup and a little more, bread crumbs
salt and pepper to taste
cumin powder to taste
fresh parsley
1 T chili garlic sauce or hot sauce

Pre heat oven to 375 degrees or heat up grill.
Chop the vegetables in a food processor until they are small pieces, then add to mashed beans. 
 Tip: I added mine to the food processor and did a few pulses but mashing them with a fork would do the same thing.  If you add them to the food processor be very careful not to over mash them and end up with a puree.  
Add vegetables and beans to egg and seasoning.  Don't over mix, just fold everything together so the egg is well incorporated.  
Form into patties.  I did 4 big patties and had a little mix left over.  You could make 5 smaller patties too. 
Place on a cookie sheet that has been sprayed with cooking spray.  If grilling, place on foil that has been sprayed with cooking spray.  

Cook for 25 minutes flipping, half way through.
