New Hair Cut

I have always, always had long hair.  It has never been shorter than not being able to put it in a pony tail.  I've never even considered going shorter because I have so much hair, I thought I would look like a mushroom head.
Lately though I have been wanting a change.  I started pinning pictures randomly and I eventually asked a few people what they thought.  Everyone was really supportive and said I should just go for it.
I was nervous but I am so glad I did.  It has only been a few days but so far I really like it.  It is easier to do and it looks a lot healthier.  I also went more blonde which I think is a good change.  I prefer darker hair but blonde seems to look better on me.
I ended up getting around 8 inches taken off.  It is a little bit shorter than I thought it would be but the cut is really cute.

Here is the before so you can see the length.

And the after.

I don't know if I will keep it like this but so far it has been a good decision.

Ikea Tray makeover

First I must admit.  I have an obsession with serving trays.  I don't know what it is but, I love them.  I use them all the time around the house.  I organize things with them.  It looks nicer to have a bunch of random stuff on a pretty tray then just laying on the counter.
I also use them to put the kids snacks on.  In the afternoon I try to get some things done upstairs so I load a tray up with little snacks and bring it up with me.
So when I was at Ikea a few weeks ago and saw This Tray on sale and I knew I had to do something with it.
Anyone that knows me knows how much I love glitter so I set out to bling this tray out.

This is what it originally looked like.  Cute, plain and perfectly acceptable to use as is.

First I painted the outside white.  Not without incident though.  I did it downstairs while the kids were playing and Jack walked into it and got paint in his hair.  So I had to stop halfway through and scrub him down in the tub to get it out.

After 2 coats and letting it dry completely, I added Mod Podge to the bottom of it.

Then I sprinkled silver and pink glitter on the bottom.  I did them as separate colors but I think next time I will mix them together and then sprinkle.  I don't mind the separation in color but maybe mixing them would have looked better.

Then I let it dry over night and put another coat of Mod Podge on top.  I let that dry overnight and it was finished.

I really like the way it turned out.  It is pretty and sparkly and I love that I did it myself.

Some updates

Life has been crazy busy and I haven't had a lot of time to get on the computer.

So, I am going to give you all a few updates and a sneak peak into a few posts that will be coming up in the next week or so.

Jack has been sick.  It is his first cold this season and he is not taking it very well.  He is up most nights for hours and hours wanting to be held and walked.  I am tired and have not been sleeping more than a few hours at a time.  Hopefully this passes soon and we can all get back to normal.

Evelyn celebrated her 4th birthday and even though I said I didn't want to have 2 parties, 1 for family and 1 for friends, we ended up having 3 parties in addition to her school party.  Birthday week is over though and I now have a well celebrated 4 year old.  She has her doctor appointment Thursday so I will update with her stats.

I got a new hair cut and had 8 inches cut off.  It is really cute and I am loving it.  Evelyn also got her hair cut and donated 8 inches.  She has a super cute bob cut and she looks even older.  So far she really likes it.

I did a few diy projects with glitter and will show some pictures of that in a post next week.

A good friend of mine is having her 3rd child so I am hosting a sprinkle party for her next month.  I have already started the theme decorations and am putting together the menu.  I love throwing parties.  More friends need to have babies so I can celebrate with them.

On the baby note I recently switched birth control and am going to be sharing my experience on the Mirena.  Look for that post in the next week or so too.

Oh and one more super exciting news.  I will be guest posting on Always Painted, Usually Chipped next week for her #BRAGONDAD series.  I will be posting the link when it is published.

Alright, that is just a quick glimpse at what has been happening.  As soon as Jack starts sleeping a bit more I will have time to write more.  Cross your fingers that that happens soon.  This mama is tired!

Weekend Plans

Crazy crazy week.  All of our normal plans were put on the back burner due to Evelyn's birthday parties and Jack getting sick.
We have spent the past 3 days in the house.  The kids are going stir crazy and so am I but, it is just way too cold to bring Jack out with his awful runny nose and I have had a lot to catch up on.
Evelyn's 4th birthday was Tuesday.  I have a post started and will publish it later.  It was a great day and I am still in disbelief that she is already 4, maybe it is just denial.  Either way she is growing and growing and I am enjoying her more and more everyday.
This weekend we have 2 more parties for her.  Some family from Mike's side are coming over tomorrow.  We are having some yummy appetizers and celebrating Evelyn's birthday with them.
Sunday is the big kids party.  I am finishing up favors and a few more decorations and then we should be all set for that.
All the kids are going to have a great time.  We are hosting it at a jump zone and everyone will get to run around like crazy and burn off some of this reserved winter energy.
Next week we will be back to our normal schedule and hopefully Jack's cold will be better.  I am tired  and no one has been sleeping through the night.
I'll be instagraming pictures of everything the next couple of days so check that out.

Meal planning Monday

I Tomorrow my little lady is turning 4 so we've been busy party planning.
Tomorrow we are having some family over for dinner and cake (which I made from scratch, hope it's good) and superman ice cream. Then her big friend party is on Sunday at the bounce houses. I still have lots to do for that party so I'm keeping things easy this week again.
Tonight we had breakfast open faced sandwiches.
Tomorrow Evelyn requested steak for special dinner. I'm making baked potatoes and salad to go with it.
The next two days of the week we are having tacos and then take out on Friday.
Next week I'll get back to a few new recipes and getting our menu more interesting.
This week though it's all about celebrating my little lady!

Evelyn's Valentines

Evelyn had her preschool Valentines day party yesterday at school.  We decided to make these little valentines to give to her class.

I found this idea on Pinterest from this blog.

I simply bought a pack of GoGo Squeez applesauce packs and made a cute label to go on them.

The bigger circle is cut with a heavy scrapbook paper in a 2 inch circle.  The smaller circle is 1.5 inches and I just used printer paper and printed the cute little saying on it, "Valentine, you're my main Squeeze."  On the back it says from Evelyn.

They were really easy and really cute.  Surprisingly, this was the first thing the kids grabbed out of their bags and asked to eat.

Meal Planning Monday

For the past 2 weeks I have been grocery shopping on Friday's for the next week.  The grocery store I usually shop at has been having a 5% off sale on Friday and Saturdays so I have been stocking up and taking advantage of the extra savings.  It has been great and makes the weekends much less rushed.  It is Sunday right now and I am hanging out having a coffee and enjoying the family.

This week's menu:

Pizza Frittata with roasted potatoes
Zuppa Soup with Salad
Bun less Jalepeno Burgers with Zucchini Noodles
BLT Lettuce Wraps
Turkey Taco's

I am also prepping and making strawberry bars for snacks and pre cutting up lots of veggies and fruits.

Weekend Wrap Up

What a great weekend we had.  Friday the kids and I visited my sister in law and the kids.  Everyone had a great lunch and tons of fun playing.  After the play date we stopped by Trader Joe's and stocked up on breakfast bars and some easy freezer meals.
Saturday I got up really early and headed to the gym.  I took a spin class.  I haven't taken spin in years and was really looking forward to it.  Too bad I disliked every minute.  Ah, it was awful and I can't remember why I originally liked it.  I was so happy when the 60 minutes was done.  After spin class I lifted.  I have started to add in a little bit of strength training and really like it.
I also took advantage of my time at the gym and sat in the steam room.  It is my favorite.  I love feeling hot.  I also took a long shower which I never get to do with the kids.
Saturday afternoon Evelyn and I had a birthday party to go to for one of her friends.  It was a princess pony party and she had so much fun.  After the party Mike went virtual golfing with some friends and the kids and I went grocery shopping.  They ate snacks and actually stayed in the cart the whole shopping trip.  Saturday night we made chicken and edamame for dinner and headed to bed early.
Sunday was a easy relaxing catch up day.  We went to the indoor farmers market in the morning.
The baskets of clean clothes finally got put away and the upstairs is all organized.
How was your weekend?  Anyone do anything fun?

Sleeping on the way home from Aunt Dana's.

Jack ran outside when I was getting him out of the car and into the house after grocery shopping.  He was too cute to not take a quick picture.  The boy loves being outside.

Mike trying to relax but of course both of the kids need to be within a foot of him whenever he is home.

Casual day date outfit

The only dates Mike and I go on are day dates.  We usually put Jack down for his nap and then the babysitter comes over.  We are never gone more than a couple of hours but that is just what we need sometimes.
Lunch and cocktails are always part of the plan so I like to dress casual but wear things that I don't usually get to wear with the kids.  Such as light colored clothing.
Below is an example of what I prefer to wear.

Casual day date

I love wearing skinny jeans but they have to be comfortable skinny jeans.  I don't like them when they are too tight but if they are too loose I find that they slide down and I am constantly pulling them up.  Paige Skyline Skinnies seem to be my favorite right now.
I also like this type of top because it is a little loose around the midsection covering the little bit of mommy belly I still have.
Boots are a must have in winter and these ones fit the bill because they are flat which is nice and they have a little bit of a rocker edge.
Clutches are my favorite type of purse and I have about 6 of them.  I don't get to use them a lot but when it is date time I always bring one.
To finalize the outfit I like to add some type of scarf.  Jewelry is not really my style but I like scarfs.  They help me keep warm in these freezing Michigan temperatures and they are the perfect accessory to add a little color.
There it is an easy, put together outfit perfect for a day date!

Menu Planning Monday

I have never bought into those meal planning helper sites.  You know the sites that send you a plan each week and help you with the grocery list.  I don't mind menu planning and actually have fun doing it.  Sure it takes some time but, having everything set up for the week isn't that difficult.  Just takes a little organization.
The reason I like doing it myself is because I can menu plan around what our nights are during the week, easy meals for busy nights, more complicated ones when we will have more time.
I also can shop based on what is on sale.  We have a grocery budget and I work hard to stay within that budget.
Well, last week I was reading my "Parent" magazine and came across a 5 easy meal plan.  All 5 dinners seemed like something the kids would eat and the grocery list looked pretty simple.
So, I am going to try it.  I will let you know how it went at the end of the week.

Here it is:

Chicken Tostadas
Wild Rice and Quinoa Bowl
Lemon Shrimp Orecchietta
Speedy Chicken Curry
Grilled Turkey Sandwiches

These meals don't include sides so I am planning on making salad and then a different vegetable each night with them.

It looks good and having the grocery list already complete seems easy.  Wish me luck!
